Mechanical Engineer

We have an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer.

Our fluid power products (highlighted by our Bear-Loc® line) are key to our current and future business success. This position would contribute to the design and oversight of our current product lines as well as new product development and enhancement. Additionally, our Engineering Department plays a key role in our reputation to produce complex assemblies for our military, and this position would support this work.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist in the design and development of new products or enhancements to existing products in collaboration with the Engineering Manager
  • Utilize CAD software to create models, drawings, and BOMs
  • Support new and existing projects though technical reviews, drawing/specification interpretation, creation of manufacturing drawings, etc.
  • Provide engineering guidance and problem-solving during production, assembly, and testing
  • Participate in Job Start Meetings when new jobs kick off
  • Help determine the disposition for non-conforming parts (dimensional/functional)
  • Support process and product improvement initiatives
  • Analyze and solve emerging technical challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree, Certificate, or similar technical degree with design experience
  • 1-3 years direct work experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • CAD software proficiency
  • Basic working GD&T knowledge
  • Experience with Solid Edge or NX a plus
  • Advanced GD&T experience and/or certificate a plus
  • Hydraulic/Fluid Power experience preferred
  • Experience in Machining or Machining Environments, ISO 9001 preferred

CNC Machinist

We are always interested in hearing from talented, skilled CNC Machinists who desire a challenging, fulfilling career and can help this York company become the national leader in hydraulics and fluid power components. Assembly and painting experience a plus. Are you:

  • Motivated to provide critical components to our military and critical needs commercial clients?

We typically seek operators for CNC turning and machining centers who are able to perform setups, read & adjust programs, and work efficiently to produce high quality parts. 5+ years of CNC experience is preferred. Some of the primary responsibilities this role includes:

  • Operates CNC turning or machining centers and has the ability to operate more than one machine at a time, conditions permitting
  • Reads and understands programs and makes adjustments as needed to match drawing specifications
  • Monitors quality during manufacturing and make corrections
  • Inspects manufactured parts to ensure they meet specified tolerances
  • Sets up each part
  • Works efficiently without sacrificing safety or quality

Summer Internship: Engineering

This eight-week, 30-hours/week fast-paced paid summer internship is designed to provide exposure to many facets of our work at York Precision from an engineering perspective. The internship also includes shadowing hands-on work opportunities with other functional teams and leadership. In terms of our total quality system we are ISO certified 9001:2015 and we are ITAR registered, a security standard required by our Defense customers.

Assignments will include:

  • Introductions, orientation and safety trainings, including partner org’s required paperwork, and an overview of internship schedule
  • Review and discuss assignments, including scope of work, objectives/outcomes, and available engineering resources
  • Shadow the Quality Manager and some of the Project Managers (by arrangement)
  • Witness aspects of the production cycle (by arrangement)
  • Attend morning “stand up” meeting-9:10-9:30 am and supervisor “Check ins”  
  • Create and migrate Applicon drawings to PDFs
  • Perform 3-D modeling* of primary parts, possibly including FARO and CMM inspection use, and for YPMH projects, like the Buffer Cylinder, Holdback Bar, Tensioner Cylinder, military projects, Bear-Loc®, and other standard/commonly run government components.
  • Update existing models-as needed 
  • Collecting set up time data, create set up procedure 
  • Participate in Job Starts: Package review, identify any differences from any relevant previous package, and specify what needs to be changed.
  • Document and knowledge management: Help us organize and steward these strategic assets, including scanning drawings and cataloguing microfilm.
  • Participate in solving engineering challenges as they arise
  • Participate in the technical review of designs and engineering calculations, as well as spreadsheet development as required (from 2-D prints) [familiarity with Solid Edge* a plus]
  • Support “eliminating waste” efforts, including machine tool organization
  • Basic CNC programming tasks/CAM software set-up

Summer Internship: Manufacturing Administration

This eight-week 30-hour/week fast-paced paid summer internship provides a deep-dive interdisciplinary experience in key manufacturing administrative functions. Manufacturing efficiency hinges significantly on the effective use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. The
successful candidate will play a central role in updating information in our ERP system and in so doing, acquire valuable experience interfacing with project management, quality management and other functional manufacturing roles. The intern will gain unique insights and experience via team meetings and other hands-on work opportunities.

York Precision Machining & Hydraulics is a respected, fast growing York area manufacturer serving U.S. defense and commercial customers. In terms of our total quality system we are ISO certified 9001:2015 and we are ITAR registered, a security standard required by our Defense customers.

Assignments will include:

  • Review and discuss assignments, including scope of work, objectives/outcomes, and resources required for success
  • Shadow managers from the two disciplines
  • Witness aspects of the production cycle
  • Attend morning “stand up” meetings-9:10-9:30 am 
  • Support the evaluation, verification, and input of defined ERP data in support of key company projects
  • Get updates from vendors for jobs: phone first, with email follow up if needed, ensuring supplier is on-track, getting early warning of unanticipated delays, documenting lead times, confirming and updating Job Boss accordingly.
  • Participate in Job Starts: provide meeting support and learn how projects for critical needs clients are planned, resourced and managed.
  • Support additional PM & Quality team needs as necessary

Summer Internship: Pre-CNC Machining

For this internship, we seek a reliable, detail-oriented tech school/machining student or recent graduate to work in a fast-paced, ISO Certified, precision CNC machining environment. This is the perfect opportunity to work with and learn from premier machinists, on advanced equipment, in an exciting and supportive environment.

During this 8-week internship, the successful candidate will receive a good balance of learning by observing experienced professionals at work in primary CNC operations, and gain hands-on experience. Your cross-training will cover virtually every aspect of the production environment, including hands-on experience in: shipping, assembly, and machining (e.g. deburring, sawing), as well as testing and inspection.

You will also have the opportunity to gain an overview of the business by meeting with the company president, the engineering design team, and other professionals.
